Norway is an interesting country. It loves using natural materials that is why local residents always built their houses from wood. But this is not the only unusual thing about Norway. Local houses also have amazing grass roofs called “turf roofs”. They have been popular here for hundreds of years.

 

All these houses are old and abandoned. They are museum pieces.

Some modern Norway houses also have beautiful turf roofs. It’s a tradition.

Picture #2, 3 and 4 are not abandoned or museum pieces. they look like normal cabins at a camping site. Turf roofs are not so common here anymore, but they are still being made.

gigantes, the turf roof was initially used as extra insulation of the roof due to Norway's cold winters.
