A Bigger Than Life Jesus (12 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       8 Nov 2010       9993       40 GALLERY VIEW

This statue of Jesus is truly bigger than life. It is located in a small town in Poland. It cost $1,500,000 and stands 157 feet tall and is the tallest statue of Jesus Christ in the world. The next closest is Jesus Christ, the redeemer in Rio de Janeiro which is 125 feet tall.

I never understood this mentality, have your personal faith and keep it to yourself, are you that insecure about it that you need huge statues, crucifixes everywhere and mega-churches?

Objectively speaking, I have no right to say that that in itself is wrong because as far as I know, I DO NOT KNOW if building that helps the faith of the people involved.

Personally though, real faith manifests not through statues or chants but through action in service for others with the purpose of changing the world for the better, regardless of religious beliefs.

BTW, I'm a devout Catholic ;)

---- I think there's a trend in these posts: Basically, people SHOULDN'T need a 50000000 foot Jesus to reaffirm their faith. I concur.

I'm ashamed that I am a citizen of Poland, this country suffering from christianity insane moher closed minds, a country of mentally ill people who can kill for christ, or other sick ideas. Nobody wanted this monument, the loss of money.

Its the biggest waste of money I seen last days!!! Do You really think that Jesus like that kind of crap? Does he like it more than helping poor in our country? Believe me that in few years it would look like piece of shit as there would be no money for cleaning it. Lets hope that storm will take care of that!

He doesn't look like a man who could have lived in the middle east two thousand years ago. More like a Scandinavian Viking or a Slavic warrior king. Anyway... this statue is much less noisy than a minaret, so i prefer the statue.

The big problem with replacing religion with science, is that science don't have ethics, moral and other values that can replace the ethics of religion. Before the replace is complete, we must agree on values and ethics that can coexist with reason. I think a mix of Greek and eastern philosophy plus human rights as a foundation.

What's going to be next? They will transfer the Holy See to Poland? I'm starting to feel like in medieval when church dictated the daly rutine. Instead of building giant statues or temples give the money to charity or something. Jesus or God don't need this kind of worship.

Well, let's see... God and Christ BOTH preached against "idols", and they did NOT make any distinction between idols of any other religion, or idols of THEM... Plus, if Christ were alive, then HE would continue to preach as he always did, which was that "living a life devoted to your fellow man is worth MORE THAN MONEY..." also, Christ lived withough having or WANTING material things...

And, what is this statue but a GIANT MATERIAL THING??? It's just something that someone HAS, like a car, or a house... "Look at us! Look at us! We're SO DEVOUT, we WASTE MONEY ON STATUES INSTEAD OF FEEDING HUNGRY PEOPLE!"

Peace...

bino,
We can just change the head. This year - head of Jesus, 2011- Lenin, 2012 - Freddie Mercury...
Anyway, I like Poland, for me it's funny, there is a lot of possibilities, we can put some ads in his hands, build a Burger King in his head (there is a tesco next to), prepere occasionall clothers like for manneken piss.
