The Real Life of Migrant Laborers in the Emirates (37 pics)

Everybody knows that the UAE (United Arab Emirates) is a rich country. With its oil and gas, it can afford building toilets and bathrooms gilded with gold and enjoying luxurious life. Still, local migrant laborers live and work as slaves.

Typically, migrant workers live in 3 and 4 storey barracks build on fenced territory.

It’s impossible to count how many barracks are there. The territory is huge and has much garbage. Thousands of people live here.

You can see linen dried along the balconies. This is a distinctive feature of local residences.

This town has its own mosque.

People spend their free time washing clothes.

Rooms are very dirty, and there is foul smell inside the buildings.

Kitchen

A stove

Restrooms look even worse. Most people don’t flush water down the toilets after themselves.

Sinks are ideal for cigarette butts.

This is how most bedrooms look like.

If the company is rich, it can afford beds for its employees.

This room belongs to taxi drivers, local elite. They have a TV set and laptop.

This is the real life of people, who meet you at the UAE airport and drive to five-star hotels.

So they want to counterbalance their otherwise filthy lifestyle by washing their clothes alot? Is here any elite taxi drivers online, who could confirm that?

... except for the fact that their passports are often times confiscated when they arrive. The wages they are paid are not enough to send money back home, cover living expenses and buy their way out of the country again. So the two choices are to keep all their money and essentially waste five years of their life, returning home in debt and shamed by their family or continue to send money home and never themselves return. Made into slaves by a bait and switch scam.

You see nothing wrong with that?

you make it sound like most of them are doctors and engineers!
read carefully what is next

-this what happen when you go outboard without "special talent" to support you.
they can drive! waw this will enhance your career!

-what keep them there? clearly it is the "best possible" place to work and if they found better chance they will chase it.

-someone mention the law?you think these poor people are not twisting the law of labor also. big % of the laborers gain their experience in gulf area! basically you lean how to work on the customer belongs (car , house, machines)! trail & error method. for example :some ppl from certain nationality will said that he expert on computer although that may be his 1st time working with one.

at the end you will find a % of ppl who work hard and honest. but this % is not that big.

so, sorry for all the ppl who belong to this %
