Chamreun and her husband to be Krong Pich were attended by the entire village during their marriage ceremony.
The marriage ceremony took two full hours as two Buddhist monks blessed the snake couple. The villagers showered them with flowers while singing traditional wedding music.
The snakes tied the proverbial knot because not only are these Cambodians Buddhists, they also believe in animism. That is the belief that spirits inhabit animal bodies. When an odd animal makes an appearance they speculate on the reason why.
The pythons were said to have been soulmates and unless they were married the village would have terrible luck and misfortune.
Learn Something Fun: Shamanism developed from animism. Long before there were shamans, there were animists, people who believe that all things have spirit.
