Where is she? Can you point her out in this photograph?
Desiree Palmen is the invisible woman. She is a true mistress of camouflage and she can blend in with any background.
She begins by taking photos of the area or scene that she wants to blend into and then spends hours in her studio in Rotterdam painting cotton suits to match the scenery.
Once her suit is perfection she or another puts on the suit and then heads back to the area to take photos of the camouflage effect. Desiree says that her work was inspired by what she feels is the increasing use of “Big Brother” surveillance in everyday life and the awy we all wish to disappear at times.
Learn Something Fun: The classic novel, 1984, George Orwell described a totalitarian society in which the government, referred to as the Party, had almost total control over the people. The supreme ruler of the Party was Big Brother.
Posters announced that "Big Brother is Watching You". Telescreens droned endlessly with brainwashing propaganda about wondrous government programs.
Coins, stamps, books, films, and banners proclaimed the three slogans of the Party: War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength.
