This town in Germany values a big honkin nose!
Each year since 1961, a German town of Langenbruck has hosted the Big Nose Word Championship. People travel from all around to stick their nose in where it actually belongs to vie for the biggest nose competition.
There is an Association of Big Noses with a few rules. One of them is that the nose has to be at least 60 mm long. There are 330 registered members and they use a modern nose gauge to measure them.
The contest for biggest nose also includes using the modern nose measuring device and the contestants are allowed to frown or make faces to make their noses bigger, but they aren’t allowed to use illegal substances.
They are hoping for fresh snozzes this year at the contest. IF you are thinking of trying to win, then be prepared to fly to Lagenbruck in June. The current male title holder has a nearly five-inch-long nose, while the women’s champion has a smeller over 4 inches in length.
Learn Something Fun: The human nose uses millions of cells to detect approximately 10,000 odors, far less than many animals, but important for maintaining a good quality of life. The sense of smell affects the ability to taste as well as the proper functioning of a human's immune system.
