Working as a paver and plant operator, James Byrne accidentally cut off his thumb. The attempt to re-attach it was unsuccessful, but the surgeons found a solution.

 

They transplanted James’ big toe from his left foot on to his hand.

makes sense, but does leave a significant problem- the large toe is the most important toe on the foot, providing balance, grip, and power to push off.

oh well... i guess he'll adjust.
