when financial crisis strike, it makes me wonder why can't the super rich spend less? like stop driving his supercar, eat less luxury food, stop luxury shopping, etc.. Why can't they do that? why they need to maintain their salary and sack the lower income ppl? was it because his high salary is super important because he need to live a glamourous life, and the low income people is as good as no income? is that what they think?

Chiffon:
How would that help the builder of the luxury car and all it's suppliers and workers. How would that help everyone from the farmer to the waiter who serves the luxury food. How would that help manufacturer to the sales person of the luxury goods. Seems to me that stopping his/her spending ways would put a lot of lower income people out of work. Why don't we all go back to the early 1800's when we made everything we needed on our own farms ourselves 6-7 days a week from sun up to sun down.

On the assumption that this is accurate, I commend his attitude. My question would be how much did he make before the cut in pay and for how long did he get it? Why wait until now to cut when the economy has been in trouble since 2006? All I'm saying is that if you are worth billions, it's not really austere, is it? Just asking.

well he's done it, and other CEOs didn't. so he's more austere than others. that's the whole point.

"A recent restructuring document issued by Japan Airlines (JAL) contained the revelation that chief executive Haruka Nishimatsu had taken a 60% pay cut, giving him a base annual salary of just ¥9.6 million (or $80,000)."

Japan Airlines took the Japanese chapter 11 in 2010.
The company went under by the leftist workers' greedy demands.

The point of this whole article is that the majority of people running companies would never do anything like this. If your business isn't doing good then you take the hit, not all your employees. Most people up top make way too much and don't know how to run a business. All they care about is that they are set for life and they don't give a crap about anyone below them.

This gentleman should be commended, not criticized for his efforts. He took a hit in order to keep his employees working. In other words, he has the ability to care for someone other than himself.

Steve Jobs was a piece of garbage, not a god. Don't compare that creep with this man.
