rabbits are well-known to consume their own droppings in order to fully digest the cellulose content. they don't have elaborate stomach systems like cattle and antelopes, so that's simply what they have to do digest all that grass. there's nothing controversial about it at this point, although some people will obviously find it shocking.
or maybe whatever you're feeding them (kibble?) is stuff that they only need to pass through once?
