It may be quite scary to look at but this skull belongs to the rather sweet-looking Crabeater Seal.

And weirdest of all is that it doesn't eat crabs. It used those teeth to strain out krill.

darn... i got it down to carnivore but couldn't figure out which type. now i know. so it's got special teeth to filter the crabs' smaller cousins... teeth which would break apart if used in the traditional way.

i never really realised how seal eyes are in that hybrid position, either... right between traditional predator and prey skull placement, it seems.
