ergm, actually there is no "original version of Red Riding Hood". It's a piece of satire, writen by Charles Perrault (It was he who added a red chaperon to the tale) in 1697 in the series of his so-called Tales; ORIGINALLY (it went with such after every of his tales) it contained the piece of author's ironical advice "So, parents - don't let your daughters enter the Royal court, they will be easy prey for the high society's predators" (see Dangerous Liaisons for an example of such). Some years later the tale was re-written by Grimm brothers, happy end added.

But in no variant of the tale the Wolf ate the girl BEFORE she gets to Granny's house.
So, you simply don't know the tale.
