This average 800sqft backyard was coverted into a cool patio.

 

Before

Excavating the upper terrace
First delivery of materials
Excavation complete, need to reroute some drainage pipes.
Starting the foundation of the first wall.
First set of stairs on their way
First wall started
First wall done.
Corner wall.
Middle wall and stairs complete.
Added a sitting wall to the first wall.
Walls are done.
Wall caps added. Backfill and drainage are in.
Corner wall with caps.
Second delivery.
Fire pit and river rock put in.
Time to install the patio
Foundation and sand leveled, pavers going in.

Let me pay someone 70% markup on material costs just because I'm too lazy to do it myself.. That way nobody will call me a hillbilly.

Hope they have good insurance. They're going to need it when some drunk falls off that upper patio to the lower one and gets hurt. No railings and not at all to code.

GUARDRAILS. Section R312 IRC 2009
R312.1 Guards required. Guards shall be located along open-sided walking surfaces, including stairs, ramps and landings, that are located more than 30 inches (762 mm) measured vertically to the floor or grade below at any point within 36 inches (914 mm) horizontally to the edge of the open side. Insect screening shall not be considered as a guard.
