Well, it's not always like that. This situation only happens once a year. If you can check the pic #17, you'll see the date. 11th of november.

In China, the 11th of november, 11-11, is single's day and it's like the Black Friday in the USA.

So, yes, is not always like that. If you want some more content try to look for how much did the Chinese spend in the first hour (00:00-1:00) on taobao (biggest online shop of the universe).

And one more thing. This is only local market, so your iPhones didn't go through that. Unless you live in China.
