The Witches

After a test screening, Roald Dahl angrily expressed to the producers how “appalled” he was at “the vulgarity, the bad taste” and “actual terror” in certain parts of the film. Dahl demanded his name and the title be removed from the film prior to release, but after receiving an apologetic, complimentary letter from Jim Henson, Dahl grudgingly withdrew his threat.

When Henry’s mother (Amy Morton) is celebrating Henry scoring a run after being walked, she hits her head on the lamp hanging above her. Morton obviously didn’t mean to do this: she is visibly hurt and after sitting down mutters “oh… shit,” but it’s dubbed out and you have to lip read.

Most of the witches in the meeting are men in women’s clothing.

It took 8 hours in makeup for Angelica Houston to turn into her gruesome character the Grand High Witch.

In the scene where Chrissy punches Roberta in the face for pretending to drown, ‘Christina Ricci’ forgot to turn her head and ended up getting punched in the face full force. The production was shut down few days due to Christina being badly bruised.
