Elle Fanning delivers a powerful performance as a high schooler transitioning from female to male while his mother (Naomi Watts) and grandmother (Susan Sarandon) try to come to terms with the decision.
"King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" (Release Date: May 12)
Charlie Hunnam plays Arthur, the rightful owner of the sword in the stone, in director Guy Ritchie's flashy retelling of the legendary British leader.
"Snatched" (Release Date: May 12)
Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn play a mother and daughter on an exotic vacation who get kidnapped, leading to unfortunate results (for those who did the kidnapping).
"Alien: Covenant" (Release Date: May 19)
Following the events of "Prometheus," a new crew on a colony mission to a remote planet finds that the life-forms there aren't so welcoming. Director Ridley Scott returns to direct. The cast includes Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, James Franco, and Katherine Waterston ("Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them") in a breakout role.
"Baywatch" (Release Date: May 24)
Coming off the huge success of "The Fate of the Furious," Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson gets on his red bathing suit for the summer comedy that reboots the classic 1990s TV show, starring alongside Zac Efron. Expect hot bodies and (hopefully) big laughs.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" (Release Date: May 26)
Johnny Depp returns to play Captain Jack Sparrow, who is in search once more of adventure and reward on the high seas. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley also return to the franchise, with Javier Bardem showing up as the villain, Captain Salazar.
"Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie" (Release Date: June 2)
DreamWorks Animation will likely have the first kids hit of the summer in its adaptation of the popular children's novel series. The story follows two fourth-grade pranksters who hypnotize their principal into thinking he's a superhero named Captain Underpants (you can imagine what his superhero suit is). Ed Helms voices Captain Underpants. Kevin Hart, Jordan Peele, Thomas Middleditch, Nick Kroll, and Kristen Schaal also lend their voices.
"Wonder Woman" (Release Date: June 2)
The origin story of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) follows her time as a princess of the Amazons who has no problem kicking some butt.
"It Comes at Night" (Release Date: June 9)
A potential sleeper hit of the summer, this horror film follows a family staying in a secluded home during a threat to the world, who take in a family looking for shelter. It stars Joe Edgerton, Riley Keough, and Christopher Abbott.
"The Mummy" (Release Date: June 9)
Tom Cruise brings "The Mummy" franchise into the modern day with this reboot. He's the only person (as usual) who can stop the ancient princess who has awakened from her crypt.
"All Eyez on Me" (Release Date: June 16)
Legendary rapper Tupac Shakur finally gets a biopic.
"Cars 3" (Release Date: June 16)
Owen Wilson returns as the voice of Lightning McQueen, who this time around has to show the newcomers in the racing game that he's still the best in the world.
"Rough Night" (Release Date: June 16)
The writing team behind "Broad City" is behind this raunchy comedy that follows a group of girlfriends who head down to Miami for a bachelorette party. But things get a little too real when the male stripper they hired dies. Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Zoë Kravitz, Jillian Bell, and Ilana Glazer round out the cast.
"Transformers: The Last Knight" (Release Date: June 23)
Michael Bay returns with another movie in the "Transformers" franchise. This time Mark Wahlberg and company team with a historian of the Transformers (Anthony Hopkins) to figure out why they keep coming to earth.
"The Bad Batch" (Release Date: June 23)
If you're looking for something off-center to see this summer, look no more. Director Ana Lily Amirpour's follow-up to the acclaimed "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night" puts us in a dystopian world where the worst of the worst are sent to a wasteland in Texas inhabited by cannibals. An unrecognizable Jim Carrey, shirtless Jason Momoa, and Keanu Reeves at his most wacky all star.
"The Beguiled" (Release Date: June 23)
Sofia Coppola's ("Lost in Translation") latest directing effort looks at what happens to a girls' school in Virginia during the Civil War after a wounded soldier is taken in. Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, Kirsten Dunst, and Colin Farrell star in this drama that's filled with sexual tension.
"The Big Sick" (Release Date: June 23)
Bought for an astounding $12 million by Amazon at the Sundance Film Festival, this comedy produced by Judd Apatow about a couple dealing with their cultural differences is essential summer viewing. Kumail Nanjiani ("Silicon Valley") and Zoe Kazan star.
"Baby Driver" (Release Date: June 28)
Director Edgar Wright ("Scott Pilgrim vs. the World") brings to the screen an idea he had back in 1994 about a getaway driver who constantly listens to music. Filled with a rich soundtrack, this heist movie also has some incredible driving stunts. The movie stars Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Ansel Elgort, Lily James, and Jon Bernthal.
"Despicable Me 3" (Release Date: June 30)
Steve Carell (and yes, the Minions) return in the hugely successful animated franchise.
"The House" (Release Date: June 30)
Will Farrell and Amy Poehler team up as husband and wife in this comedy about parents who start an illegal casino in their basement to pay for their daughter's college tuition.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" (Release Date: July 7)
With the help of Marvel Studios, Sony once more resurrects Spider-Man. After the impressive cameo from new Spidey Tom Holland in "Captain America: Civil War," this high school-set origin story for Peter Parker looks very promising.
"A Ghost Story" (Release Date: July 7)
David Lowery ("Pete's Dragon") shows off his skill for subtle storytelling with this look at love and loss. Casey Affleck plays a white sheet-wearing ghost who returns to see his wife (Rooney Mara) one last time.
"Patti Cake$" (Release Date: July 7)
Newcomer Danielle Macdonald will steal your heart as the aspiring rapper known on the New Jersey streets as Killa P, or Patti Cake$. The movie was a hit at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
"War for the Planet of the Apes" (Release Date: July 14)
Andy Serkis uses his motion-capture magic to once more play ape Caesar in the latest movie from the "Planet of the Apes" franchise that further shows how apes overpower man.
"Dunkirk" (Release Date: July 21)
Christopher Nolan's latest movie focuses on the the Battle of Dunkirk during World War II. Expect lush photography and some pretty cool airplane dogfights.
"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" (Release Date: July 21)
Luc Besson adapts the famous French graphic novel about two special operatives (Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne) who are tasked with saving the universe. Given the insane visuals, you'll probably want to see this one in 3D.
"Atomic Blonde" (Release Date: July 28)
In the stylized action movie from one of the directors behind "John Wick," Charlize Theron completely slays it as an MI6 agent sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent.
"The Emoji Movie" (Release Date: July 28)
Yes, it's a movie about emoji. Get ready. It's got some impressive talent lending their voices, including T.J. Miller, Patrick Stewart, Ilana Glazer, and Maya Rudolph. Who knows? Maybe it's good.
"An Inconvenient Sequel" (Release Date: July 28)
More than a decade after the Oscar-winning "An Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore returns for a sequel that explores the issue of global warming. Spoiler alert: Things haven't really improved.
"The Dark Tower" (Release Date: August 4)
Based on the Stephen King book series, the movie stars Idris Elba as The Gunslinger, a man who roams the Old West searching for the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) and the fabled Dark Tower.
"Detroit" (Release Date: August 4)
Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty") brings her in-your-face filmmaking style to the infamous 1967 Detroit riots. John Boyega, Jason Mitchell, and Anthony Mackie star.
"Ingrid Goes West" (Release Date: August 4)
In this wonderful dark comedy about how dangerous being attached to our phones can really be, Aubrey Plaza plays a disturbed woman who becomes obsessed with an Instagram star (Elizabeth Olsen).
"Wind River" (Release Date: August 4)
It's the directorial debut of Taylor Sheridan, the acclaimed screenwriter behind "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water." Jon Bernthal, Jeremy Renner, and Elizabeth Olsen round out the cast of the thriller set on a Native American reservation.
"Annabelle: Creation" (Release Date: August 11)
If you need a creepy horror flick to end your summer, this sequel to the 2014 hit original should do the trick.
