Obesity is defined as an abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat that may impair health and could lead to death, disability, and a lower quality of life.

Fundamentally, obesity is caused by an imbalance of calories consumed and calories expended. Globally there has been an increase in the amount of energy-dense foods that are high in fat and a decrease in physical activity due to sedentary lifestyles.

Globally, 925 million people suffer from hunger. 1.5 billion people are overweight or obese.

Both obesity and hunger lead to malnourishment. People on both sides of the spectrum suffer from micronutrient malnutrition including vitamin A, iron, or iodine deficiency.

Most obesity is concentrated in the developed world. In fact, 1 in 3 Americans is obese.

People who eat out for breakfast and dinner more than double their risk of becoming obese.

Obesity and being overweight is the fifth leading risk for global deaths. At least 2.8 million adults die each year as a result of being overweight or obese.

Although mothers tend to receive all the attention, a father's diet has been found to have an equal effect upon the future child's health. Dad's who eat out a lot or are overweight tend to be malnourished because they don't eat enough fruits and vegetables. This in turn affects the child's development.

Lack of sleep is a huge contributor to obesity. Why? Apart from messing up your body's natural cycles and hormones, the longer you are awake the more you mindlessly snack, especially at night.

Although juice is often seen as a healthy drink, your body is designed to run on water and nothing else. By only drinking water you can cut out a massive number of calories in your diet. Besides, most juices are just sugar. If you want fruit, eat fruit. Also, if you're not an athlete, Gatorade will only contribute to weight gain.

Half of everything you eat should be fruits and vegetables. The other half should be split between protein and carbs.

As they say, “Eat Breakfast Like a King, Lunch Like a Prince, and Dinner Like a Pauper”. By front-loading your day with calories, your metabolism will get a jumpstart and you'll actually use those calories. Most people skip breakfast, eat fast food for lunch, and eat out for dinner. This is the opposite of what your body is designed for.

This is surprising. I thought for sure obesity would be to blame for global warming in some way.
