When people speak about the dangers of vaping, no one ever imagines that explosion is part of the risks that you face when you vape. Although rare, there have been reports of injuries resulting from explosions of vape mods. While you may think that the vape juice like space jam juice ejuice may be the main culprit, we are here to tell you that this isn’t the case. It mostly has to do with the hardware. There has even been cases in which a person died following the explosion of his vape pen. The device blew up and fragments lodged into his skull. He is also reported to have suffered more than 80% burns. The explosions can happen at just about anytime. Explosions have reportedly happened during use, while charging, during transportation, under storage or even during the replacement of batteries. The major causes of vape mode explosions are:
Inappropriate Battery Charging
Most vape mods that explode are usually those that are charged inappropriately. Mods typically come with charging guidelines that indicate the proper charge duration and the amperage for the charge. Some people fail to follow these guidelines and charge their mod batteries using varying power sources. The current that is delivered through the USB varies greatly and can usually result in a significant amp difference. If the current is too high, the vape mod batteries are likely to overheat. When the issue is not immediately addressed, the mod can explode during or even after the charge.
Using Damaged Batteries
With time, the batteries of the mod are bound to get old and be damaged. They may begin leaking or swelling and give problems when charging. When you begin to notice faults in charging or with the batteries, it is recommendable that you begin considering getting a replacement for the batteries. Some of the vape mods that explode usually have faulty batteries. Leaking batteries can cause an undesired connection or rust within the mods. Contact between the wires might then result in explosions. This is particularly more dangerous as the explosion can happen at any time, whether you are vaping, charging or just holding the device.
Mechanical Mods
A majority of the mods that explode have been discovered to be mechanical mods. The mods typically come with either little or no safety measures. With no protection measures in place, a little misuse of mechanical mods can result in explosions. Common causes of explosion of mechanical mods include:
- Recharging an over drained battery
- Battery faults resulting from damaged wrappers
- Faulty rebuildable atomizers as a result of loosening leads
- A significant reduction in the resistance of the atomizer that causes the battery to be over-stressed.
It is advisable to buy mechanical mods only if you understand the risks and know how to minimize the dangers.
Poorly Stored Mods
Improper storage has been identified as another common cause of vape mod explosion. When the battery of a vape mod comes into contact with other metals, the sparks that it creates can cause an explosion. When travelling therefore, it is recommendable that one removes the batteries from the mod and stores them separately in a plastic container. This keeps them from getting in contact with other metals thus preventing explosions.
