Deepfake – highly realistic fake videos, audio recordings, or photos that have typically been generated by deep learning AI algorithms. The algorithm is able to generate synthetic audio of that person’s voice saying things they have never said, or videos of that person doing things they have never done.
And Internet should never learn to use these!
For example,
Nic Cage as Lois Lane
Cage singing Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive
Jennifer Lawrence with Buscemi’s face
Bill Hader morphing into Tom Cruise (Lots of Hader Deepfakes out there)
Hader as Schwarzenegger
Stallone as The Terminator
and this unsettling one of Tom Hanks as Woody.
Last year, Jordan Peele released a video showing how deepfakes could also be used to impersonate world leaders.
Thankfully, companies like Deeptrace are already working on technology that will decipher real videos from fakes, and last week they released a report on the current statistics for deepfake videos.
The report found that deepfake technology is being overwhelmingly used for one specific thing…
Porn.
Deeptrace analyzed 14,678 deepfake videos, and discovered that 96% are celebrities being nonconsensually placed in porn.
What else did you expect to happen?
