I before E except after C;
Or when sounding like 'A', as in 'Neighbor' and 'Weigh';
And also in science, you'll find noncompliance.
Therefore:
In Latin-based words, like 'receives' = I before E except after C
In German-based words, like 'neighbor' and 'weigh' = E before I
In science terms, when the root ends in E, and the suffix is '-ine' = caffe-ine
And just fyi: I made up the 'also in science you'll find noncompliance'.
Sorry that's so confusing. How is this so difficult for you?
And how many of you who cannot master this have bitched about people not speaking English?
#11 You're an adult, and you still do that? Your parents must be proud.
#25 Refer to the above explanation of 'I before E' which we learned in second grade, but which your entire generation cannot seem to comprehend.
#30 I rest my case.
