“It’s tough being a working mom for me right now just because I’m going through a custody battle. I would love to spend time with my son, but I have to make a living so we can have a good life once the custody battle comes to an end.”

Izismile Videos

Monthly paychecks don’t make her life any easier. “Honestly, every time I open a check I just chuckle a little bit. My coworkers and I will compare checks to see who got the least amount and we’ll just laugh because it’s ridiculous how little we get paid.” Aaliyah still tries to stay positive: “I would just like to add that I love my job and I’m fortunate enough to make enough to get by, but it’s tough to think that if an emergency comes up it could really hurt me financially. I just wish we all had stable and consistent paychecks.”

“It’s important to tip because we literally rely solely on those tips. We’ll be greatly appreciative and it’s just nice to be compassionate and understanding that this is just how laws are set up, and if you’re going to restaurants that do abide by these laws, you are feeding into the broken system. We don’t like relying on the customer but until the laws can get changed, we still need to be paid.” Whatever you do, Don’t. Forget. To tip.

Some people, though, appeared far from convinced

But Aaliyah was quick to defend her point

“My advice to fellow moms is just keep being badass. Being a mom alone is a full-time job, so I would want them to know I’m supporting them!” At the end of a day, being a mom is the most precious job of all.

Aaliyah’s post sparked a heated debate over how important it is to tip

Service staff are supposed to be paid a full and fair wage, that being said, tipping should be a reward for someone going above and beyond what they do

This is emotional blackmail. Employers paying their staff as little as possible then foisting their unhappy employees onto their customers, guilting them into subsidizing their wages. Seriously, this needs to change. Pay you staff properly. Staff, stop blaming the customers.

They chose to work a job where they have to survive off of mainly tips. I'm not about to give away a bunch of extra money just because some people make terrible decisions. You should either stop complaining about the poor wages, or stop supporting businesses that do this. Don't come crying to me about your poor life choices.

Good points, Aaliyah. You've convinced me to stop going to places that pressure customers to tip. We'll cook at home more and save! Thank you!

PS: I work just as hard for my money as you do yours.

Well, billionaires don't get rich by paying reasonable and fair wages to every mug they employ. They get rich by stealing every f@#king penny they can off them.

I appreciate that she worked a lot of hours, but so did the Chef and the cooking staff. The kitchen staff works long, hard hours and it's the service staff that gets all of the tips, FOR THE FOOD THAT THE KITCHEN PRODUCED!!! I can't tell you how many hundred servers I've worked with that b*tch about having to work a whole 5 or 6 hours and go home with more money than the cooks, who worked twice as long, in worse conditions. Mostly a buncha wh#res... And for the record, I've held every job from dishwasher to Chef to multiple-unit director in my career...

"this is why you tip"

what a way to burn every little piece of sympathy for your situation. JC_doubledown

WHOSE FAULT is that?!! i dont think its customers fault, and i dont think they should be paying for it.

so instead of this, urge your state, goverment, politicians, economist, your local goverment solve this ecnonomical abnormality, so you will get normal wage from your employer, and not untaxed money from you customer.
or get a different job. ok

this is one of those absurd things in USA i wont ever understand.

I work in the food industry.
Her pay is minimal BECAUSE she makes tips, not the other way around. An attentive server can make serious bank in a busy restaurant. A terrible lazy server will find something else as the tips will reflex that. Imo this weeds out people not cut out to hustle and multi task.

Or raise the minimum for servers to $15 or whatever an hour and no tipping but good luck getting that 2nd cup of coffee when you want it.
