This is ridicolous. Shame on you, Izismile. There's enough unhealthy pressure on kids when it comes to their physical appearance, don't add to it by posting stupid sh#t like this. It's disrespectful at best. Thank you.

Good post. Shows that people can really improve themselves when they set their mind to it. The potential is there - just have to bring it out. I’m sure these people are very proud of their transition. Good job to all.

Jehu,
Are you American by any chance..? I was quite surprised by your comment, not to mention that I've got two dislikes to your three likes, at the point of writing. I think there is a fundamental cultural difference at play here, which I find very interesting. Why is stupid duckface better than a smile with braces? Why is thin better than fat? Why do people continue to take pictures of themselves posing scantily clad in front of a mirror? It's ridicolous, embarrassing, and a disappointing testament to what humans do with the marvellous technology we have at our disposal.

Stephie, you’re missing the point. The photos show people who blossomed and grew, and the confidence they’ve gained in themselves. It’s about personal growth, not looks. They all deserve to show off that growth and self esteem. Good for all of them!

Eleanor,Sorry, but I think you're missing the point. I'm sure these people feel good about themselves for losing some kilos of weight or getting rid of their braces, fine. Personal growth or no, the importance of physical appearance, on social media especially, can't be healthy for young people. It's not necessarily this particular post that is harmful, it is the idea that if you deviate in any way from the impossible beauty standards set by today's society, then you are not good enough, there's something wrong with you. The obsession of contemporary society with the perfect look, life, body, what have you. It's important to let people, especially young people, know that what they see in the mirror is more than good enough. Calling perfectly normal teenagers 'ugly ducklings' doesn't do anything in that regard.

Stephie, I guess I can’t agree since I’m not focused on their looks at all. I see people who are proud of themselves in regards to growth, and self esteem is a really positive thing. Most teenagers go through an awkward stage before maturing and these people are showing off those transformations because they’re proud of who they’ve grown into. You’re basically taking that away from them by saying they don’t have the right to feel that way.

I get your point and agree, but it doesn’t apply here. And implying that superficial ideals exist only in America is just plain ignorant and prejudiced.
