I had the USA version many years ago. It was not horrible. No one is expecting a gourmet meal. When you’re really hungry you’ll eat about anything.

The US Military offers 24 different MRE menus.
You certainly know your MRE's. They have some very tasty and more complete than pictured menus these days, although I ate my last one around 1998. It was new at the time, Kosher and it was chow mein with crispy stir fry noodles and even the water chestnuts were crunchy. I'd lived through the "volemet" and ham slice years. Glad the guys don't have to eat those anymore.
