Life was about 100x harder back then and people aged differently. Diet was different too & usually much healthier if you had food that is. Most of the soft young people of today would not have survived back then.

Colie,

Good points. I believe most would have done just fine, IF they finally grasped the now-rare concept of "if you don't work, you don't eat." Hunger is an amazing motivator. I know from experience. We didn't have time to be victims, and no one would have listened to our whining anyway. If a person could clean toilets, they could get a job, and money, and food. That concept is gone.

People used to be terrified of poverty. Like it was a raging animal in the night, waiting right outside the door to kill you. Not enough people are scared of it now.

People back then went to work as early as 12. Now, people don't want their 22 year olds to get a job and interfere with their schooling.
Our 25 year olds wouldn't be able to survive their teens if they were born before 1980.
