Good points. I believe most would have done just fine, IF they finally grasped the now-rare concept of "if you don't work, you don't eat." Hunger is an amazing motivator. I know from experience. We didn't have time to be victims, and no one would have listened to our whining anyway. If a person could clean toilets, they could get a job, and money, and food. That concept is gone.
People used to be terrified of poverty. Like it was a raging animal in the night, waiting right outside the door to kill you. Not enough people are scared of it now.
Our 25 year olds wouldn't be able to survive their teens if they were born before 1980.
