#15 Yeah the pipe could go all the way to the ceiling but it is a fake pipe on a fake fire. The whole room would be full of smoke if that fire was real. Either a picture of a fire or a LCD screen. The rocks might not even be real rocks but concrete or fiberglass to like a rock backing.

Ivy, There could be a hidden bend at the end of that pipe leading the smoke into the chimney from there. I have a similar setup at home. The extra pipe can give you kilowatts of extra heating from the hot exhaust being led through it, and it makes it easy to change the stove without having to make adjustments to the hole into the chimney. Just change the length of the pipe (usually cut it to give room for a larger stove) and you're good to go.
