Imagine if they were able to use them as apartments? I know there is the logistics of sewage, fresh water etc. Just a thought.

Nabby, actually in some cities, ships are used to provide additional space. For example on my Danube trip I've seen a school on a ship including the sports center. Google: Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium - it looks pretty cool.

As for apartments - I think a cruise ship has to be altered a lot -which costs a lot of money -which would be better to be spent on real apartments.

Scrap. What a waste. Hospital ships for disaster areas?

Izzy has a great idea. Here in the U S alone they could have put 9-10 ships for that. 4-6 weeks then move to the next location. Even if a state government absorbed the expense it could work.

Gosh, didn't know I'm now Rod

it is a ship scrap yard, ships are broken down and parts are reused and metal is sent to be melted into other items..

Those are scrapped because the owners don't want to sell them to possible competitors down the line. They are scrapped due to the ongoing covid pandemic which took the bottom out of the cruise market. AFAIK the ships were all in good condition.
