They are aggressively contact tracing and clamping down on any cases that do crop up. They shut the virus down back in April by following the science. That's why New Zealand has 5 deaths per million instead of the US's 1000 per million. Think about that for a minute: they have 0.5% the number of deaths per capita than the US. In this case, science works.
They live on an island with no one going in a out. Don’t be dim and compare to the USA the largest economy in the world. Hell I guess Antarctica really followed science, right?
Indeed Antarctica does follow the science and has a pretty rigid protocol on how travel is handled. It's hardly dim to compare how different countries respond to a pandemic. I assume you are saying that the US is simply incompetent though, being that it's the largest economy in the world and still unable to control a pandemic simply by following pretty straightforward guidelines on contract tracing and distancing.
Some countries take it seriously and some want to encourage herd immunity. Killing 1 out of every 1000 people seems a little harsh though. I expect the US will hit one out of every 750 before the vaccine starts having a substantial effect.
So many people here in the US don’t even believe the virus is real. It’s unbelievable. The problems these people cause because they can’t do the simplest things like wear a mask, wash your hands, and don’t do public gatherings. No, they can’t be bothered. People seriously believe that masks don’t help, and some even believe it’s a gov conspiracy to track them. They should all be shipped to some wasteland island to protect those who are doing everything possible to end this pandemic.

I don't know about the UK, but you are right that bribery is legal and openly practiced in the US. In the case of Amazon, $17M in lobbyists per year buys a lot of tax breaks, and as you note, they aren't illegal.
