#3 Nope, there is no "main" language in Belgium, the southern part speaks french, dutch (or some form of) in the north, a small part speaks german and there are blotches of land in the north and in the south where local languages are reversed.

Morey,

Who cares? The f**k does that have to do with french fries? The soldiers heard french, the fries got their name. That's it. No one cares about languages in f**king belgium.

As a kid I was told soaps were so called because it was what ladies watched while doing dishes and cleaning the house.

Swene, Seriously, you can look this up: the early sponsors of these radio dramas were soap companies. They would have their commercials written into the dialog. I have heard these old radio shows, and I am telling you: that's where the name came from - soap companies.

Prudy, Of course you're right. I remember them since I was born in the 40's. I also remember boxes of laundry detergent coming with a towel in some boxes and face cloths or hand towels in other sized boxes. Then, they would switch up and put a single china plate in them with saucers or cups in other box sizes. So, if you wanted a matched set, you either made sure to buy all of them while the giveaway was on (they ran for years) or you traded with neighbors for each of you to get what you needed to complete your sets of bath towels, etc, then dish sets, etc. The giveaways went by the wayside along with my youth a long time ago.
