#50 - wrong. One is searching for answers and one is searching for meaning. There is a huge difference. There is nothing incompatible between science and religion. Crack a book sometime - it was the Catholic Church that 1st advocated the Big Bang theory.

Trixie,
Disagree, one is looking for answers, the other tells you the answers and you are deemed a heretic if you don't comply.

Onnie, that is simply not true. Learn the difference between the organization and the people. People make mistakes because humans are fallible . When they start "tell[ing] you the answers" they have strayed beyond the realm of religion. Genetics, astro-physics, and yes, even evolution, are examples of fields where Catholic religious were among the leading researchers and proponents.

Pinckney, obviously reading comprehension is not /your/ strong suit either. The Catholic Church *fully* supports evolution. Creationism (or the more preferred Intelligent Design) is a product of Evangelicals, not Catholics. Evolution cannot explain the origin of life, only the diversity. It posits one theory as to the origin, but that theory is neither supported by scientific evidence nor is it "falsifiable," the same charge atheists level at ID. The Catholic Church accepts the /possibility/ that theory of origin is correct, because an all-knowing, all-powerful God created a world that obeys certain, unchangeable laws. In that sense, He would know the outcome of processes set in motion billions of years ago. The Church's official position, therefore, is that evolution is not incompatible with a divine origin.

Pinckney, you need to crack a book, too. The Church did not stop technical developments (and yes, the capital "C" is deliberate). Imperfect people at various times in history did interfere in the pursuit of knowledge, but this was not due to any teaching of the Church. Catholic monks and Assyrian Jews preserved some of the knowledge from the ancient world through constant transcription. We would have much less source material if not for their actions.

Dickie, reading comprehension not your strong point, eh? The very last sentence from the article "[t]hus, we can exonerate the Church from the charge of executing scientists for their beliefs. It simply didn't happen" completely undercuts your argument.

Ferdinando,

Only got to eat there as a kid one time. It felt kind of run down, but we loved the games, stayed the hell out of the ballpit and ate pizza. It wasn't the best pizza ever but it was better than Little Caesars. Did not measure up to Pizza Hut in the 80s however which also had games, but much much better food.
