"The Lego Movie. I thought “Oh this is just one of those movies for a product. I mean Batman and Superman on the poster, this screams paid product. I just hope the marketing isn’t crazy”. My god was I wrong. The Lego Movie is now in my top 20 animated movies and I did not expect that movie to be that amazing. It proved to me that all those paid product movies don’t have any excuses to be as bad as they are."

"The Edge of Tomorrow. I thought it was going to be a stupid explosion movie since I’d never heard of it, turned out to be the one of the cleverest takes on the Sci-fi action genre I’ve seen. Great story, and really well acted. Not surprised it’s become a cult hit"

"The Matrix. The preview did a good job not revealing any important plot elements, which made me assume it would be just a special-effects showcase without any plot."

"I was surprised by how much i enjoyed Apocalypto, despite the bad vibes that have surrounded Mel Gibson."

"Cabin In the Woods. Expected a lame cookie-cutter slasher flick. Got something way more epic and fun."

"“School of Rock.” I saw it on TV at least 5 years after it was first released. I remembered rolling my eyes at the previews and being all cynical about it. Turned out it was a magical musical journey full of laughter and learning."

"For some reason, I thought Knives Out was gonna be just another lame movie with famous assemble cast but I liked it way more than I expected."

"Bad Times at the El Royale. Wish I’d paid more attention to the beginning of it."

"Galaxy quest. Seems like a cheap star trek knock off. Oh my gosh no it isn’t. I’ve shown it to people who aren’t into sci-fi and took a lot of persuading. They love it, every time."

"Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse. I was expecting a corny kids version of a marvel movie. Entertaining but no substance. Well I was blown away, probably had the most fun in a movie that I can remember with that one. And I think that’s a movie meant to be watched on a big screen."

"I had no idea what to expect when I went to see Scott Pilgrim vs the World. I had never seen anything like it and was thoroughly entertained."

"A simple favor. just stupid entertaining and blake lively is excellent in it."

"John Wick. Keanu as a retired hitman getting revenge on the people who killed his dog? I mean, that sounds like the synopsis for a Ranier Wolfcastle movie. Put it on during a hangover Sunday thinking it would be background noise while I napped. There was no napping that day."
Wilyquixote
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Watched it when it first came out, and closed it within 30 mins since it was a Jim Carrey movie with no jokes. Didn’t make sense at all. Fast forward many years later, got a chance to see it again, watched the whole thing and was completely blown away. Its now one of my top movies of all time."

"The Disaster Artist has no business being as good as it was."

"Fury, I didn’t see anything about it when it came out. Watched it on HBO not knowing what it was about . Great WW2 tank warfare movie staring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena, and Scott Eastwood."

"Disney’s “Onward”! Chris Pratt nails his characters enthusiasm and adolescent humor. As someone who lost a parent young, I was in tears within minutes."

"Clue. A movie about a board game? What? And it’s a comedy?"

"“In Time” with Justin Timberlake. Cool movie concept and he pulled off the role."
Tima_Chan
"“The Family” with De Niro. Thought it was gonna be super cheesy but actually had a bit of depth and heart."

"Guardians of the galaxy. A overwhelmingly cgi movie staring Andy from parks n rec is already unbelievable. Then you throw in the trash panda, a green lady and vin diesel as a tree; really just expected it to be trash but it’s seriously THE best the MCU has to offer"
KenJyi30
"“Equilibrium” First move I’d seen with Christian Bale and he blew me away. Good sci-fi flick, exceptional fight scenes."

"I was taken to see Footloose as a kid and complained endlessly on the way to the theater because I thought it was going to suck. Ended up absolutely loving it."

After that watch the TV series Wellington Paranormal.
I used to think like that, especially about the original Point Break. Keanu and Patrick Swayze best combination ever! That didn't stop them from producing a ruinous remake. My vote from this list goes to "In Time" great film. If you like Amanda Seyfried, check out Anon with Clive Owen. Another great sci fi film. Too much to see on one pass.
