Yes, it could mean "the flight of death" or sth more like "deathborn" or "deadborn", but more interestingly "vol" could also be a contraction for "vole" which means "steal"
This could refer to "body snatching" or even figuratively "outsmart death". I reckon most of us see it like that, "to steal from death itself" as a mythological character.

Ever heard a lizard or bird roar? No one knows for sure, but they probably emitted a very loud, low frequency rumbling sound like an alligator. You would have been able to feel it as well as hear it, and it would have been scary as hell.
