It's supposed to be snapped after the wetbed sets, but they rarely break below the grout line and you have to trim them with a razor knife.
It happens because of complacency. It hasn't happened before so you don't think it will ever happen, until it does. It's human nature. You need to be proactive with safety, especially powerful machines like a lathe.

It's a matter of what you are and are not used to. People in industrialized countries who ride escalators regularly may smirk at this scene, but some of those people cowering in that clip might think nothing of swatting aside a deadly snake or staring down a dangerous animal, say.
That and it seems to moving at a higher then normal rate of speed.
I've never seen a dog on an escalator.
