Normal and common. They are often sold with exterior vent options for the range underneath.
So you have to reach over a hot stove to remove a hot dish from the microwave.
And even if the stove is being used the microwave is high enough up that it shouldn't be a problem. People seem to look for fault in everything when there is none.
