could be "speed-blindness"....if you go at the same speed for a long duration, you can experience speed blindness (a effect that makes it seem as soon as you slow down from your long duration high-speed to a lower speed, it looks to the driver that they are standing still and can get out).....although, not sure if this is applicable in culdesacks, only heard about it happening on long stretches of road in the middle of nowhere.
