They likely tried that. I would hope that the window is the style that could be opened and tilted for cleaning, and bring it in that way; easier than removing part of the door jamb.

Recip tool and proper flat-bar would have that 3/4" door jamb off in a couple minutes. Easy to replace with some caulk and a fresh slap of paint.

#1 That NOT mold. It's pectin residue, and very common on homemade jams, but can be found in manufactured ones that were not skimmed we'll.
