Technically they still are exactly that... but people decided to take offense when they were used negatively. So new words were created, and then those became bad (retarded, disabled, etc.). And now we have this "mentally divergent" nonsense.

Well, they forgot the last step of any boat... covering the outside with tar and pitch mixture and keeping the wood damp to prevent shrinkage. Every wooden boat owner knows this.
