#13 That's so cool! So Euro-Awesome! An empty bus lane next to three congested traffic lanes (where all the normal people are). Observable evidence that your stupid eco-psycho ideas are absolutely untenable.

Theodosius,
When you take the bus, you can only go where the bus goes.
Note that the bus is traveling in a direction opposite to the direction of the congested lanes.

Theodosius,

It's not about solutions. It's about signaling your virtue.

Emanuel, first off, this is the a40 in a region called "ruhrgebiet", one of the densiest populated regions in germany and the a40 "cut" right in the middle.
So, if you want to go from a to z with a bus THIS bus had to use the (often congested) a40 and a clocked bus route wasnt feasable.
the next problem in your logic is the idea that this was "new" build.
no, it was not. Back in the cold war THIS stripe of land between the two lanes could be easily converted into a make shift landing stripe for planes (you know, if the cold war would go "hot")
The only thing they did was not use it for the a40 on "special" routes, NOT for the entire a40.
Thats all, they carved out some parts of this stripe to allow buses to get from a to z WITHOUT standing in a traffic jam.
But, hey you and theodosius knew it all.
wouldnt be surprised if you are from the land of yee - haw with no idea what they are talking about.

Rollo, no, not really, but this shit discussions from people who didnt have a clue is annoying and "euro - awesome" and "eco psycho" plus "signaling your virtue" is a one class ticket to a - hole land for me bc people using this phrases have to near 100 % no clue what they are talking about.
but granted, THIS shouldnt be in a "ingenious infrastructure" picdump, was only a byproduct from the cold war.
