My next-door neighbor fed her cat into a similar state, and the cat wound up becoming diabetic at age 12. It's now underweight and still wants to eat like a horse. We'll see if she can keep up with the insulin injections. Food is not love -- it's "Here -- eat this and go away and quit bugging me".
