"The Metaverse."
"I love that this flopped so hard, I didn’t even know it had launched yet."
"I’m still very distraught we never got the modular phone revolution I was promised back in the early 2010s. Now it’s wildly exciting to have a replaceable battery. My heart weeps"
"Monkeypox (whew)"
"3D television/movies"
"I hate 3D because I have to wear 3D glasses while wearing normal glasses and most of the time, it didn’t even work and only gave me a headache."
"Same with curved TV screens. I know there are still some out there, but I remember people saying that all TV’s would eventually be curved."
"Drone delivery of packages"
"That Quibi app that was supposed to be the next big thing in streaming bc you paid for short-form content, even though you could literally get the same thing on YouTube for free…"
"Not entirely relevant, but I liked the trend where everybody wanted the smallest cell phone possible. For 20 years cell phones got smaller and smaller. Often being the main selling point of the phone.
Then all of sudden you could watch videos on your phone, and almost overnight the trend reversed to “larger is better”."
"The DCEU. I mean, they started a franchise finally showing Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman together on the big screen, and yet they somehow managed to botch it so spectacularly, so early on."
"Google+.
And Google Wave.
And Google Stadia.
And Google Buzz.
And Google Hangouts.
And Google Reader."
"Google Glass"
"Dippin Dots has been the ice cream of the future for a while now. You’d think that future would have come to pass by now."
"When BlackBerry 10 was launched (I was working there at the time) they also used the opportunity to rebrand the company from Research In Motion (RIM) to BlackBerry. As a result, they put up these vertical banners outside each building with the BlackBerry logo as it would take some time to change all the signs on the buildings. One of our Chinese coworkers informed us that it looked very similar to how you announce the death of a family member in China.
We were all laid off in less than a year and the company stopped making phones only a few years later."
"Clear Pepsi. If I remember correctly they even used a Van Halen song for the commercials"
"VR in general has been a perpetual letdown. Like I bought an Oculus 2 and it was pretty neat at first but after a few weeks I found the only thing I consistently used it for was porn."
"HD DVD
Still remember half the movies being blue and the others red."
"MoviePass"
"The XFL….twice"
Both of those things are still very popular depending on where you're from, especially the elec. car. They're going strong and getting stronger, just not in certain parts of the US. "Lol."
I can only play in short amounts of time.
