Clarence, the Himalaya was once the bottom of the sea. Continental plate-movement forged it up to more than 8 kilometers.

Roger,

Remember that when they tell you it's the "hottest day/week/year on record" by 0.5°. Does anyone really believe they could measure temperature to 0.1°F in the late 1800's??

Pinckney, According to the 1979 International Glaciological Society Journal, a mercury-in-glass thermometer, of the type invented in 1714 by Daniel Fahrenheit, can be accurate to ±4mK under laboratory conditions, and ±5mK in the field.
That would equate to an accuracy of 4 or 5 thousandths of a degree, Celsius. Or, to match your question, 0.0072 to 0.009°F.

So yes, I do really believe they could measure temperature in the late 1800's more accurately than you can imagine.

Babs,

And they did this in thousands of locations across the globe? Including Africa, Antarctica, and South America?

Helene,

For him, yes. They’re only as big an Arnold’s though, who is about 5 inches taller. Stallone is clearly standing on a box or step. Does that mean he has a big fat Pen!s? Who can say? It does with my enormous hands.
