I think the moral of the story is that Sweden has some bad builders

Pamela,
Or architects who do not understand how much the building owners actually have to spend on producing the building shown in the rendering.

Construction time photos of buildings shot on rainy Swedish November days look worse than their renderings. *surprisedpikachu*

Just shows how far from reality Architects plan. Most of the rendered buildings are pure fantasy, that couldn´t even be realised if there would be endless money. Architects are just dreamers, not knowing how most things can be build in reality.

Vester,

Agreed. Often, the prototype design ends up being too ostentatious for structural feasibility, as well as expense. The competitive bids to win contracts to build, most often end up being drawing competitions with the most wacked out conceptual design winning. Just look at the Denver Public Library.

Sad that you don't get a guarantee with buildings because they do not look like they are supposed to

Architect here. Some of these are really terrible. There are many factors however, that can alter the original design, money being the most important, others would be safety or energy conservation. Most of the time it was not the architect, who decided to make changes.

the first is the architect's idea, and the second is after the engineers had a go at it and told them how much it would cost. 36 35

Wilber,

That was my thought as well... It costs how much? What can I get for 1/2 that?
