Why not? Different comparisons help people visualize the size or vastness of a thing; whether you use meters or yards, kilometers or miles, corgis or cans of beans. Only petty people fret over stuff like this. Just get on with your life and leave other people alone.
Because: comparing the weight of a truck to a number elephants still does not make sense to me.
