I'm afraid you got it backwards: the mask is there to protect everyone else against you -- your breath. You may be a carrier (immune or not) and not know it; therefore it helps prevent spreading the disease.
Not sure where did the "leftist" or "political" come from but, I find it funny that you should mention "factual" since, if you had taken just a little time to do a search (cdc.gov, pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, pnas.org, etc) you would have found out that the mask is meant to protect both you and the others, but mostly others. Scientifically so. But, if you think down voting will make you right, by all means...
