Bruce Springsteen wrote this one during Darkness on the Edge of Town sessions but didn’t feel it fit his style. Producer Jimmy Iovine passed it along to Patti Smith, who added her own lyrics.

This tune was originally written for Britney Spears. Oddly enough, her team decided to pass on it, and it was given to Rihanna, who absolutely blew up because of it.

Speak of the devil! This tune, which is arguably the one she’s most famous for, was originally written for the trio ‘TLC.’
“Irreplaceable” – Beyoncé
This tune was written by Ne-Yo, who actually wrote it for a male country singer.
“Since U Been Gone” – Kelly Clarkson
This tune, which won Kelly Clarkson a grammy, was written for P!nk, who turned it down. It was then offered to Hillary Duff, who also turned it down!
“Happy” – Pharrell Williams
Yeah… THAT song. Pharrell wrote this song for Cee Lo Green, who ultimately passed on it. So Pharrell recorded it himself, and it absolutely blew up.
“I Will Always Love You” – Whitney Houston
Originally written by Dolly Parton in the 70s, the song was initially to be sung by Elvis Presley. However, Dolly didn’t want to sign over half of her publishing rights, so the song was shelved until Whitney recorded her now iconic version.
“Halo” – Beyoncé
This tune was originally offered to Leona Lewis, who was riding a wave of success from her song ‘Bleeding Love.’ She passed on it, and Beyonce swooped right in.
“Disturbia” – Rihanna
Chris Brown and his team wrote this tune for himself, but decided that it would be better suited for a female voice. Rihanna recorded it, and it became one of her biggest hits.
“All About That Bass” – Meghan Trainor
Meghan herself wrote this song for Adele and Beyonce, and they both passed on it. It became one of the biggest songs of 2014.
“Wrecking Ball” – Miley Cyrus
This song was originally written for Beyonce, who’s coming up a lot in this list… It eventually went to Miley Cyrus who was just coming out of her Hannah Montana era.
“Toxic” – Britney Spears
This tune was written for Kylie Minogue, who passed on it beacuse it didn’t feel like her ‘vibe at the time.’ It ended up winning Britney a grammy, and Kylie later admitted she regretted not recording it.
