Coober Pedy in Australian desert is their home. That’s an underground town where 3500 people from 45 different nationalities live. It’s much more luxurious down there and much cooler, as temperature is maintained at 23-25 degrees C.

Ubari is a desert oasis located between the Messak Sattafat plateau and Idhan Ubari erg sand dunes and lakes, which is one of the hottest and driest locations in the world. It is magnificent!

After years of drought, the waters of the river Zin are seen gushing down a dry riverbed to the delight of the locals.
This happened because of heavy rain in mountainous regions several miles away from the arid land.

Huacachina is a village in the Ica Region of southwestern Peru. This small town has only 115 people and is a resort and tourist destination for locals from Ica and people wanting to experience desert activities like dune rides and sandboarding. Located around a small lagoon, the legend says that a native princess was captured by a hunter and the water she was bathing in became the lake and that she now lives in the oasis as mermaid.

The Wadi Adventure Center in the middle of the Arabian Desert is designed as a training pool for kayakers and surfers. The 100 million liter swimming pool has a wave system that can produce waves up to 3.5 meters. 21 year old Sally Fitzgibbon, is seen here testing the waves.

Consisting of 18 lakes, the Ounianga is located in the Northern Chad region of the Sahara Desert. Here, average annual rainfall is no more than 2mm and the lakes depend on the underground supply of ‘fossil’ water left over from ancient times when the climate was much wetter.

The Concordia research station is located on the Antarctic Plateau and operates year round. It is over 500 kilometres from the nearest civilisation and is considered the most isolated human outpost on the planet. 3233 metres above sea level, Concordia is built atop a naturally occurring summit on the Antarctic Ice Sheet and experiences dry conditions with temperatures well below freezing. These conditions are ideal for the study of astronomy, which is one project conducted here along with the investigation into climate change.

Welcome to the Black Rock desert. This desert is home to the Burning Man Festival. Some very strange looking people attend the event but there is plenty to see and do plus it is a great place to express your creativity.
Apparently a bobcat was being chased by a cougar somewhere in the desert. Bobcats may be cunning but this cougar was cleverer. He found a place to escape to where the cougar can never get to him.

This is the Lencois Maranhenses National Park. It is located in northeastern Brazil in the state of Maranhao. It has many large sand dunes that occasionally flood but is very flat and low. In spite of rain that is abundant there is practically no vegetation. However, it does have beautiful green lagoons. The park was created on June 2, 1981.
Bahrain is known for its miraculous Tree of Life that grows in the middle of the desert, miles away from water and other plants. This natural wonder is 400 years old and 25 meters in height. It attracts tourists from all over the world who wish to see the most mysterious tree that is able to survive in harsh conditions and is shrouded by legends.
