Olasvern submarine base in Norway is to be sold to private sector as NATO no longer needs it. The facility designed to withstand a nuclear attack will be transferred to a new owner for $17.5 million. Olasvern will make a perfect hideout for a wannabe supervillain if only he will afford to pay the electricity bills for a 15,000 sq.m military base with office spaces, submarine dock, warehouses and barracks.

The Norwegian island of Spitsbergen is known for its Svalbard Global Seed Vault, located about 810 miles (1,303 km) from the North Pole. This secure seedbank preserves various plant seeds, duplicates or “spare” copies of seeds from gene banks from around the world, in an underground cavern. If the seeds are lost in gene banks, the Seed Vault will provide insurance, and in case of large-scale crises it will provide a shelter for them.

Norway is home to numerous fjords and seemingly endless natural beauty. However, sometimes you have to take a vanishing bridge to arrive at your destination. The Storseisundet bridge will trick your mind but luckily not your car.
Norway is an interesting country. It loves using natural materials that is why local residents always built their houses from wood. But this is not the only unusual thing about Norway. Local houses also have amazing grass roofs called “turf roofs”. They have been popular here for hundreds of years.
Two guys had fun last summer in Norway by chasing a Google Street View car, disguised in their scuba gears.
They said what started as a simple joke has become very popular on the Internet and they didn’t expect that.
These are by far some of the best Google Street View pictures…
This is the Bastoey Prison which is situated on a deserted island in Norway. It’s actually a ‘green prison’!
The prison produces electricity with the help of a solar panel which was installed by the inmates. There is also a garden where the inmates grow vegetables and a farm where they are looking after domestic animals like cows, pigs, sheep and chickens. As they are on an island, they can go fishing for more food if needed.
This prison is not for dangerous criminals, as a matter of fact, there are no walls or wires that could prevent inmates from escaping…
Early yesterday morning, the residents from Alta and Tromsø in Norway have witnessed a fantastic natural phenomenon. The local newspapers started to publish photographs submitted by readers: in the sky above Alta and Tromsø was formed a giant spiral with a blue glow inside. The spiral twisted right in front of astonished spectators. Photos that were sent were taken by amateurs, so it’s not the best quality.
Northern Lights are not uncommon in the Arctic and everyone got used to it there, but this time, it is something quite unusual...
