ugh, it kills me knowing that i can't get one of these babies cause they're illegal in CA. makes me so sad, cause these are the cutest things i've ever seen. ]:
i hope you guys kept these babies alive, or gave them to a wildlife officer who could, and returned them to the wild where they belong...what happened to their mother?

One of the special surprises about living in Europe when I moved here was discovering these little fellas living in my garden. I immediately fell in love with them. We have a large garden and I go out of my way to attract them each spring and summer by leaving little plates of fruit. This year we have at least 20 adults roaming around each evening cleaning up our garden of insects, snails.
They are nocturnal so they're usually asleep all day and I keep overturned old pots with doors broken out for them to sleep in with a bit of old dried grass. My favourite time is now when the babies start exploring on their own away from mom. Like most baby animals they have faces that would melt any heart.
too cute! My son and I want some! but as I am teaching my son. . .wild animals are best left in the wild. Unless the mama has been hurt or killed. . .they are way cute tho!
these little guys actually seem social. my sister-in-law has a hedgehog and i don't think it would ever cooperate enough to let her take pictures like this.

I love how people are saying "They are nocturnal, give them to wildlife officers to introduce back into the wild!" They basically live in your garden! There was a whole hedgehogfamily living in my dads garden. Mom, dad and 4 babies. AND http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-toed_Hedgehog are 100% legal as pets. At least in Sweden.
