Actually first poster is right. The diagonal line between red and green falls 3 squares in the length of 8 sqaures while the line between blue and orange falls 2 squares in the length of 5. Now since 3/8 does not equal 2/5 there is not a straight line when the pieces are reassembled in the second manner. There is in fact a small gap equalling 1 square.
If you don't believe that, this trick is possible thanks to the fibonacci series 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21.. and so on. It gets even harder to see when done in a larger format for instance 13 by 13 or 21 by 21.
