This seaside resort was one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world a few decades ago. Lots of stars went there like Elizabeth Taylor or Brigitte Bardot. But in 1974, the conflict that tore Cyprus in half and divided the North and South forced the closure of this resort… Since then, it’s nothing more than a ghost city. Too bad, it could be a great place to go on vacation…
Turks didn't invade Cyprus you idiot. It was a Turkish island which Turkishs and Greeks lived together on it so many decades, and after the first world war the island became an individual country. And after that time genosides began between two races. That is why Turkey made a military move to the island.
Cyprus was most definately a "Greek" (actually Byzantine) Island centuries before the Ottoman Turks arrived. Cyprus has been under many invading rulers (it was even sold to the Templars by Richard the Lionheart, who then sold it back to him!) No matter who the conqueror was the island has retained and even strengthened it's Greek heritage. Greeks and Turks have indeed lived side by side in the past, until 1974 when the Turkish leader of the time found an excuse to flood the island with Turkish troops and separate the two Cypriot cultures. Turkish and Greek Cypriots alike lost their homes and were in essence refugees. The situation remains today, with a vast no mans land littered with landmines and derelict buildings. A thousand odd Greek Cypriots are still missing as a result of the invasion, and thousands on both sides still yearn to return to their family homes. "Paintball and war games" is an insult to the trauma this Island has suffered and shows a huge ignorance to world history.
