These special Chinese eggs are black inside with a greenish tint and look as if they were found during the excavations of an ancient Chinese city. That’s what thought foreigners first arrived in China, that it were simply stale eggs, and called them "Century eggs" (or hundred-year egg, thousand-year egg). They are usually marinated in a special way for a few weeks or even months, which gives an unpleasant odor (the scent is similar to the smell of ammonia). I love it! It's the best! This isn't gourmet food, I have it alot and they're not reaaalllyyy expensive I think. It doesn't smell like ammonia at all, by the way.
wesna80 maybe that's why alcohol during dinner is practically mandatory in china xD But those eggs do look really gross; definitely like something that shouldn't be put in your mouth D:
