This is the Bastoey Prison which is situated on a deserted island in Norway. It’s actually a ‘green prison’! The prison produces electricity with the help of a solar panel which was installed by the inmates. There is also a garden where the inmates grow vegetables and a farm where they are looking after domestic animals like cows, pigs, sheep and chickens. As they are on an island, they can go fishing for more food if needed. This prison is not for dangerous criminals, as a matter of fact, there are no walls or wires that could prevent inmates from escaping…
This pictures is not from Bastøy.. they are all from a prison called Hof.
Hof is a working camp /prison for ppl with minor violations, for example DUI, minor drugs, speeding, fraud etc.
I know this because I’ve been locked up there for 21 days. (Speeding)
But it’s true what you write. Bastoy is a “green” prison with ppl doing more or less as they want to. They just have to stay on that island. In Norway we consider it as a punishment, just to lose your freedom for a period. The inmates on this island is persons who has done mostly economy crime and /or ppl who has done longer time, and have less than a year left on their time. The kinda need to adjust to a “normal” life before they are back in the public.
Sorry, don’t understand you.. but both of those two prisons is for "customers" of small offences. Except as I said, the inmates who has served long time, and shown that they are ready to meet the world again. They usually get to stay 7-10 months before they get into the public.
And it’s only 70-80 km between those two prisons. But it's way harder to get into bastøy
